In my opinion, the one of the best advantages of democracy is that it's rule of the people! I find histories about various royals (the Tudors, the Stuarts, Catherine the Great, the House of Bourbon, the dynasties of Ancient Egypt) fascinating in that an integral part of their systems of power rests in denying political power to the majority of their country's population, yet by-and-large they are aware of the power that could be wielded by the populace if they found ways to join together to use it effectively.
